06   Western Blot Information

Standard IgG tests can produce false positives. The Western Blot is the gold standard for HSV confirmation.
What Is the Western Blot?
Processed by the University of Washington Virology Lab, significantly more accurate than standard IgG tests. It differentiates between HSV-1 and HSV-2 and is recommended to confirm a positive IgG result, especially without symptoms.
Understanding Your Results
POSITIVE: HSV antibodies confirmed.
NEGATIVE: No HSV antibodies detected.
INDETERMINATE: Inconclusive, may need repeating.

Always discuss results with your healthcare provider.
Questions to Ask Your Doctor
Can you order a Western Blot for me? | What does my IgG index value mean? | Should I be on suppressive therapy? | How do I reduce transmission risk?

07   What's Normal?

So much fear comes from not knowing what to expect. Here is what the data actually says.
Outbreak frequency varies widely. Some people have frequent outbreaks. Others have one and never experience another. Both are normal.
Triggers are personal. What causes an outbreak for one person may have no effect on another. This is why tracking YOUR triggers matters.
Healing is not linear. You may feel great for weeks then have a difficult day. That is not failure. That is the nature of healing.
Emotional responses are valid. Grief, anger, shame, relief. All of these are normal responses to a diagnosis. You are allowed to feel all of it.
Transmission risk can be significantly reduced. Suppressive therapy, barrier protection, and open communication all help substantially.
Most people with HSV do not know they have it. Estimates suggest 67-80% of people with HSV are unaware. You are not alone and you are not unusual.
You are not contagious all the time. HSV is most contagious during active outbreaks. Many people live in long-term relationships without transmission.
You can still date, love, and connect. Millions of people with HSV have fulfilling relationships and families. Your love life is not over.

"You are not broken. You are human and you are learning."

08   You Are Not Your Diagnosis

You Are Not Your Diagnosis

Your diagnosis is something you carry. It is not who you are.

You are still worthy of love, connection, joy, and a full life. Nothing about this changes your value. Nothing about this makes you less deserving of the life you imagined for yourself.

It is okay if you are still processing. It is okay if some days feel heavy. Healing is not linear and you are allowed to take this one step at a time.

You are not alone in this. There is a community of people who understand, who have felt what you feel, and who are learning how to move forward. Just like you.

Give yourself grace. Give yourself time. And most importantly, do not give up on yourself.

"You are worthy of every good thing that is coming to you."

What do you want to say to yourself right now?

PositivePathways was built for moments like this. So you never have to carry this alone.

09   Daily Affirmations

What you tell yourself daily shapes how you heal. Read these out loud. Say them like you mean them, even when it is hard.
01
"I am worthy of love, connection, and joy."
02
"My diagnosis does not define my worth or my story."
03
"I am healing, physically, emotionally, and spiritually."
04
"I attract people who see and celebrate all of me."
05
"I choose to release shame and embrace self-compassion."
06

08

10

12   You Don't Have to Do This Alone

You Don't Have to
Do This Alone

The fact that you made it through this workbook means something.

You took a moment to check in with yourself. To reflect. To understand your body and your experience a little more. That matters more than you think.

But the truth is, doing this manually can feel overwhelming. Trying to track everything, remember patterns, manage emotions, and navigate it all alone is a lot.

That is exactly why PositivePathways was created.

A space where you do not have to figure this out by yourself. Connect with others who understand and access support when you need it.

You deserve support. You deserve ease. You deserve to feel seen.
